We're recruiting!

Keen to contribute to your community while achieving a healthy work-life-income balance? Well, we can offer you that flexibility and more. Read on to learn more about the benefits of joining the team at the University of Melbourne Shepparton Medical Centre.

The practice

We offer a stimulating and rewarding experience for a vocationally registered GP in a collaborative, quality focused learning environment. Become part of our optimistic, proactive and passionate team.

Team spirit

We aren't quite like other practices. We problem solve and learn together, and we support each other. We do this by ensuring that incidental conversations can happen very regularly. We value shared lunches and morning and afternoon tea breaks, and we make time for each other. The result is that our seven receptionists, eleven doctors and four nurses work alongside each other in our patients' best interest.

A learning clinic

Being a teaching clinic also means that we are a learning practice. We have a range of medical and nursing students in our practice, and we usually have several registrars with us.  We tend to distribute medical students across the team, and everyone here is expected to participate in teaching. We are co-located with the University of Melbourne's Department of Rural Health and the Rural Clinical School, meaning that we have access to academic support. Many of our doctors also teach with the Rural Clinical School. We find that our students give us a lot - we learn a lot while we teach.

Quality matters

High quality clinical, teaching, business, and customer services translate into good care. We regularly undertake quality improvement initiatives, we constantly seek to optimise what we do, and we evaluate the impact of changes we make rigorously. We have just passed our third General Practice Accreditation audit - all three without a single finding or recommendation for improvement.

Flexibility

We understand that achieving a balance between commitments to patients, family, friends, and community is increasingly valued. We are able to offer flexibility: earlier starts and earlier finishes, or later starts and later finishes, or part-time arrangements - discuss your needs with us.

Income

Our ambition is to provide equitable access to high quality, sustainable care that is valued by our patients. Since April 2016, we are a mixed billing practice. For more information please contact the practice's director Soenke Tremper on s.tremper@shepmed.unimelb.edu.au.

The life

Shepparton lies on the banks of Kaiela (Yorta Yorta for Goulburn River) and is the heart of the Goulburn Valley. The fruit basket of Australia, Shepparton offers incredible diversity: Surrounded by orchards, Shepparton is less than 2 hours from Melbourne, about 2 hours from the Australian Alps, less than an hour to the mighty Murray River, and surrounded by National and State Parks, major wine producing regions, and beautiful pastures. Whether you choose to live in the diverse regional hub Shepparton, the scenic Dookie Hills, or the  picturesque Murchison and Tatura - immerse yourself in community, enjoy the outdoors, and take in the flourishing arts. If you have or plan to have children, rest assured that Shepparton has excellent schools - both public and private - on offer, and the tertiary education sector is also well represented.
